


The Wheelwright Scientific School offers tuition scholarships to Newburyport residents who plan to major in science or engineering. This includes public and private school graduates who live in Newburyport. Eligible applicants must:
- Reside in Newburyport,
- Be a Protestant boy or girl of good character,
- Be accepted at an accredited four-year college,
- Pursue an education in Engineering or the Sciences.
Each application requires up to three letters of reference, which must include one from your minister and one from a classroom teacher. Also required is a completed statement from your high school or college administrator (using the template included with the application form).
Applications are due annually on April 15. You may complete and submit your application using the form on this site.
References and the statement from your school administrator (in signed and sealed envelopes) must be submitted by April 15 directly to:

Awardees continuing their studies in engineering or the basic sciences may reapply each year for tuition assistance by submitting a renewal application by April 15 and a transcript of grades from the prior term and invoice for the upcoming term by July 15.
Each term, awardees are required to submit a transcript of their grades and the bill for the upcoming term before funds for the upcoming term will be released. Copies of these documents should be provided directly to:

Awardees must notify the President of the Wheelwright Scientific School of any changes in their courses of study that in any way may diminish the emphasis on science. Payment for the upcoming semester is paid to the school only after a bill for the upcoming semester and a transcript of grades for the previous semester is received. Any failure to comply will mean automatic cancellation of the Wheelwright Scholarship/Grant.
